Could Alcohol Detection Tech Be Coming to your Vehicle?

Can technology help prevent drunk driving accidents? A program being developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) might just make that a reality soon.

The Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety (DADSS) program is a research partnership between NHTSA and an industry consortium. They are working to develop technology to prevent drivers from operating their vehicles under the influence. DADSS currently has two models that are currently being researched and developed, one that detects alcohol in the driver’s breath and one that detects by touch. Once they are fully functional, the technologies could eventually be included in vehicles as a standard safety feature.

Walter Clark Legal Group has long been a proponent of alcohol-detection technology being implemented in establishments that serve alcohol. If this technology were available in restaurants, restaurant owners and patrons would be able to self-police and potentially prevent impaired guests from getting behind the wheel. Our firm also distributes free breathalyzers to the public so people can keep them in the glove box and thoroughly supports the initiatives being taken by DADSS to prevent drunk driving incidents.

“Having alcohol-detection technology in every vehicle is the next big step in preventing drunk driving,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group. “We applaud the work being done by DADSS and we hope to see this technology become available to the public very soon.”
