3.3 million baby lounger pads are being recalled due to risk of fatalities. According to a recent report by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the lounger pads manufactured by the Boppy Company pose a serious risk to babies due to the fact that they can cause suffocation.
Thus far, at least 8 infant deaths have been tied to the products. These deaths have all occurred within five years of one another. Once the Consumer Product Safety Commission had announced that it was opening an investigation into the products, a recall notice was issued in less than a year. According to a quote from the current chair of the commission, Robert S. Adler, “Since we know that infants sleep so much of the time — even in products not intended for sleep — and since suffocation can happen so quickly, these Boppy lounger products are simply too risky to remain on the market.”
Learning More About the Product History
The loungers in question were sold to consumer between the years of 2004 and 2021. Boppy has announced that anyone currently using the product should immediately stop and request a full refund from the company. Popular retailers that have previously sold the lounger pads include Target, Walmart and Amazon.
