One person is injured and another is in custody after a Bear Valley Road pedestrian crash Tuesday night. The accident occurred on Bear Valley Road between Jacaranda Avenue and Mojave Fish Hatchery Road, near Victor Valley College. According to officials, a pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway around 8:20 p.m. when he was struck by a Toyota Tacoma.
According to deputies, one driver saw the pedestrian and swerved to get out of the way. However, the Tacoma driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian. The truck struck the pedestrian in the eastbound lane.
The pedestrian suffered major injuries, including a leg fracture. He was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment. Police also arrested the driver of the Tacoma on suspicion of drunk driving after conducting a sobriety test. Officials have not stated whether alcohol contributed to the crash.
The accident closed down eastbound Bear Valley Road from Jacaranda Avenue to Mojave Fish Hatchery Road for about two hours. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the Bear Valley Road pedestrian crash.
Victorville Pedestrians Need Safety Reminder
There have been three pedestrian crashes in Victorville this past week. In each of these cases, the pedestrian walked into the street without using a crosswalk, putting themselves in the path of oncoming vehicles. Pedestrians can avoid these accidents by practicing safe habits while crossing the street.
“This driver should certainly not have been driving under the influence and we’re glad he was taken into custody. However, this accident would not have happened if the pedestrian used an appropriate crosswalk and waited to cross until it was safe. Pedestrians really need to take safety seriously when crossing the road,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
