Police arrested a drunk driver who caused a head-on crash on Highway 178 Thursday. The crash injured five people. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), 22-year-old Miguel Zamora attempted to pass another vehicle and crashed into an oncoming vehicle.
Zamora’s vehicle was carrying three passengers. Everyone in the vehicle sustained injuries. The 53-year-old female driver of the other vehicle also suffered moderate injuries in the head-on crash.
Driver Attempted Dangerous Passing Maneuver, Causing Head-On Crash
CHP officer say Zamora tried to pass the vehicle in front of him on a blind curve. He also crossed double yellow lines to make the maneuver.
In 2014, nearly 10,000 died in drunk driving crashes. Moreover, drunk driving crashes injure someone every 90 seconds in the U.S., according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). And for most drunk drivers who crash, it is far from their first time driving under the influence. Most drunk drivers who are arrested for DUI have driven drunk about 80 times before they were ever arrested.
“Our thoughts are with everyone hurt in this crash. Drunk driving is just destructive to our society and can never be tolerated,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
