A DUI suspect faces multiple felony charges after he crashed his vehicle in Yucca Valley, knocking down power lines and seriously injuring his passenger. Police arrested 28-year-old Jeremy Lee Roses and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol causing great bodily injury, hit-and-run resulting in permanent injury, and child abuse.
Roses was driving with his 2-year-old son and 23-year-old Aaron Erichson on Saturday, Nov. 11. He was traveling south on Warren Vista Avenue, south of Starlight Mesa Road, when he lost control of his Dodge Durango. The vehicle rolled over into the open desert and crashed into a utility pole. Witnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling over 80 mph on the dirt road right before the accident.
Passenger Suffers Major Injuries
Erichson suffered major injuries and was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment. Roses sustained minor injuries and was treated at Hi-Desert Medical Center with his son, who was uninjured. Police officers later took Roses into custody at the hospital.
DUI Suspect Has Multiple Prior Convictions
In addition to the three felony charges, Roses is also accused of violating his probation from an earlier conviction. The terms of the probation were that he could not possess or drink any alcohol, or enter liquor stores, and that he would commit no new crimes. Roses had already violated the probation last year, when he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor DUI. His probation was extended to three years. Roses has several other prior convictions, including driving without a license, drug possession, theft and public drunkenness.
“Our thoughts are with the victim who was severely hurt in this crash. This driver has had several chances to change his ways. However, he continues to break the law and put others in harm’s way,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
