Erratic Driving Leads to Thousand Palms Crash
Erratic Driving Leads to Thousand Palms Crash

A man accused of erratic driving crashed into a traffic control box in Thousand Palms Tuesday morning. According to police, the driver of a pickup truck was driving out of control in the area of Ramon Road and Monterey Avenue. He allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road and ran multiple stop signs. Police say he also came close to hitting other vehicles.

The driver then ran into a traffic control box and a backflow prevention device. Another vehicle picked up the pickup truck driver before police arrived. Witnesses reported seeing a lot of blood on the ground near the crash site.

Police are looking for the erratic driving suspect. They are searching local hospitals, as the driver is likely suffering from injuries.

Erratic Driving Often a Result of Driving Under the Influence

Erratic driving consists of four dangerous behaviors: speeding and stopping issues, failure to maintain lane, judgment errors and “lack of vigilance.” For instance, judgment errors include following a vehicle too closely or making illegal turns. Mistakes that indicate lack of vigilance are those such as driving in the dark without headlights or driving into oncoming traffic.

Because consuming alcohol and drugs can impact one’s judgment, driving under the influence often results in erratic driving. If you witness someone driving erratically, you should report the driver to the police right away.

“Reporting erratic drivers is a simple way we as the public can help the police keep dangerous drivers off the road,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
