Hyundai has recently announced that they will be recalling nearly 400,000 vehicles due to the risk of dangerous engine fires. The threat is so serious, in fact, that Hyundai is advising some of the drivers impacted by the recall to park their vehicles outdoors in order to reduce the risk of a deadly blaze damaging their home or injury themselves and their loved ones.
The largest section of the recall includes 203,000 Sante Fe Sport SUVs produced between 2013 and 2015. According to data provided by Hyundai, brake fluid may accidentally leak onto the anti-lock brake computer, creating an electrical short and subsequent engine fire. As part of the recall, Hyundai will replace the computer and any impacted fuses. More information about the full extent of this particular automobile recall can be found at the company’s official recall notice web portal.
A Recent History of Automobile Recalls
Hyundai is not alone in dealing with large-scale automobile recalls. In fact, Kia recently recalled nearly 150,000 of their SUVs due to an issue with a piston ring and unexpected fires. More information about the Kia automobile recall can be found here.
