A driver is in the hospital after police found his overturned vehicle in a ditch Thursday night. Police say the victim’s vehicle rolled over near the intersection of Santa Fe Avenue West and Sequoia Street in Hesperia around 9 p.m. Deputies found the man lying outside of the vehicle.
The victim complained of pain and had an obvious injury to his head. Police transported him to Desert Valley Hospital. From there, authorities airlifted him to a trauma center.
Driver of Overturned Vehicle Caused Crash Minutes Earlier
Witnesses say the driver caused a minor hit-and-run collision on Hesperia Road and Sycamore Street shortly before the rollover crash. The other driver involved in that crash followed the man’s vehicle around the corner. He then saw the overturned vehicle and called police. The witness says the man was driving erratically prior to the crash.
Police have not said whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in either crash. It is not clear whether the driver was ejected during the rollover crash or if he exited the vehicle himself. The Hesperia Sheriff’s Station is investigating the incident. Anyone with information can contact the station at (760) 947-1500.
“If the witness’s statements are accurate, it seems likely the driver was either under the influence or highly distracted. Hopefully authorities get to the bottom of this incident quickly,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
