A driver suffered serious injuries in a high speed tractor-trailer crash Wednesday afternoon. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials say the driver of a blue Jaguar was traveling south on I-15 when he rear-ended a tractor-trailer. The crash happened around 2:45 p.m. near the Stoddard Wells Road off-ramp.
A witness says the Jaguar was traveling at a high rate of speed in the No. 3 lane when he attempted to pass the tractor-trailer. The driver failed to move into the No. 2 lane in time to safely pass. Instead, he crashed into the back of the tractor-trailer.
According to the CHP, the Jaguar driver sustained head trauma in the high speed tractor-trailer crash. He was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for major injuries.
The tractor-trailer driver pulled over immediately after the crash. He was uninjured. The Victorville CHP continues to investigate the accident.
Did Unsafe Pass Attempt Cause High Speed Tractor-Trailer Crash?
The I-15 crash is still under investigation, but witness accounts indicate that the Jaguar driver’s attempt to pass the tractor-trailer resulted in the collision. Passing other vehicles on the road is a common practice, especially when the vehicle you are following is traveling at a slower speed. However, unsafe passing can easily lead to rear-end crashes.
“Drivers always need to make sure they have ample room for passing another vehicle to avoid accidents,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
