In December, the FDA issued a safety advisory about the dangers of Limbrel, a treatment for osteoarthritis. Limbrel is a medical food used to manage the inflammation associated with osteoarthritis. The FDA has received reports of over 200 adverse events associated with the product.
Limbrel Linked to Liver Injury and Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis
The potential issues associated with the medical food include drug-induced liver injury and hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP). HP is an inflammation of the lungs that can cause symptoms like coughing, chronic bronchitis, shortness of breath, chest tightness and fever. Symptoms of liver damage from the drug include jaundice, nausea, fatigue and gastrointestinal pain.
Primus, the maker of Limbrel, issued a voluntary recall last month, following pressure from the FDA. However, the company has stated that the company does not agree that the recall was necessary.
“If you have been taking this medication, the FDA advises you to stop taking it and talk to your doctor about other options,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
