Pedestrian Fatally Struck by a Car in Desert Hot Springs

A pedestrian is dead after he was struck by a car in Desert Hot Springs Wednesday. The accident occurred around 6 a.m. near the intersection of Palm Drive and Ironwood Drive. Police say a Hyundai Elantra traveling south on Palm crashed into a pedestrian south of the intersection.

The pedestrian died at the scene. The fatal crash shut down Palm Drive from Ironwood to Two Bunch Palms Trail for roughly four hours. The closure also created traffic backups across the city.

Desert Hot Springs police are investigating the accident. However, the driver involved did stop to cooperate with the investigation.

Pedestrian Deaths on the Rise in Coachella Valley

This incident is the fourth pedestrian fatality in Coachella Valley this year. Last year, 28 people perished in pedestrian crashes, making 2016 the deadliest year for Coachella Valley pedestrians in 12 years.

“We sincerely hope this year we see the end of the upward trend in pedestrian fatalities,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
