Red Light Runner Causes Victorville Collision

A driver ran a red light at a Victorville intersection, causing a major accident on Wednesday, December 14. The crash occurred at the intersection of Hesperia Road and Crestview Drive just after 8 a.m.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, a white Toyota Highlander heading west on Crestview Drive attempted to turn left when a northbound BMW sedan ran the red light, clipping the front of the Highlander.

The crash sent debris into the roadway, blocking southbound traffic on Hesperia Road. Police diverted traffic around the crash, causing major backups in the surrounding neighborhood. The two occupants of the Highlander, a woman and her child, were taken to the hospital for unknown injuries. The BMW driver also required hospitalization.

Red Light Runners Cause Thousands of Accidents

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), red light runners caused 126,000 injuries and 709 fatalities in 2014. Another study revealed that a motorist ran a red light every 20 minutes.

“Running a red light is more than violating a simple traffic law. When you’re too impatient to wait for the light to turn green, you risk your life and the lives of other motorists on the road,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
