A driver ran a red light and crashed into a school bus in Yucca Valley last month. Witnesses say the driver of a Chevy 2500 crew cab was traveling east on Twentynine Palms Highway when he ran a red light and hit the school bus at the intersection of La Contenta Road and Twentynine Palms Highway. The crash, which happened around 6:30 a.m., caused the bus to overturn.
The driver of the Chevy, 69-year-old Thomas Knie, suffered injuries and was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center. Fortunately there were no children on the bus at the time of the crash. The bus driver, 27-year-old Cassie Bastrup, and her passenger Deliah Cleary were uninjured.
Police are still investigating the crash, but it seems clear that running a red light was the cause.
“Thankfully no children were in the bus when this happened. With school back in session, it’s crucial to pay attention to school buses, school zones and children walking to and from school,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
