A man was rescued from his vehicle Sunday morning after a single-vehicle rollover crash left him trapped in an embankment off I-15 in Apple Valley. Police say the 46-year-old was driving a Chrysler Sebring on I-15 near Stoddard Wells Road when the vehicle rolled down the freeway embankment, coming to a stop upside-down at a barbed wire perimeter fence.
The man’s wife, who was in the passenger seat, was able to escape the vehicle and get help from a motorist on the freeway. The driver called 911 and Apple Valley firefighters responded. According to the fire department, it took firefighters 30 minutes to free the victim using the Jaws of Life and other devices.
Both victims of the rollover crash were hospitalized with serious injuries.
A similar accident happened just three days prior in Victorville when a driver drove off the road and landed in a ditch. The 66-year-old had to be extricated from his vehicle.
“It’s so important to fully concentrate on the road when driving on these interstates. The steep embankments are very unforgiving to those who drive off the road,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
