Stranded Hiker Airlifted from Palm Springs Trail
Stranded Hiker Airlifted from Palm Springs Trail

A stranded hiker was rescued from a Palm Springs trail Saturday morning. The hiker called police at 8 p.m. Friday requesting assistance. He had fallen down a ravine near Dry Falls Trail and was trapped.

Fortunately, the hiker was not injured, but he told police he did not have enough water. Palm Springs Police Search and Rescue went out to find him Friday night, but they were unable to rescue him due to terrain and weather. They communicated with the hiker throughout the night via cell phone.

On Saturday morning, the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Super Puma helicopter was dispatched to assist in the hiker’s rescue. He was located and airlifted to safety. The hiker was uninjured, save for some dehydration.

Rules for Safe Desert Hiking

Many hikers are drawn to the beautiful and adventurous mountain trails around Palm Springs. And while hiking can be a fun and healthy activity, it can also be dangerous if hikers are not extremely careful. Read over these 8 rules for safe hiking in the desert if you need a refresher.

“Every summer we hear about hikers being stranded or hurt on the trails. Please put your safety first if you plan to do any hiking in the heat,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
