A teenager was seriously injured in a dirt bike crash in Hesperia Wednesday. Police say the boy crashed into a FedEx van on Peach Avenue near Atlantic Street around 4 p.m. According to the initial report, the van was heading north on Peach Avenue when the biker traveling west on Atlantic crossed into the van’s path. The driver was unable to stop in time and hit the dirt bike. The rider was then thrown from the off-road motorcycle onto the road.
Another teen was riding a dirt bike along the victim, but he was not involved in the crash. Authorities transported the injured teen to Desert Valley Hospital. From there he was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment. According to officials, he suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Dirt Bike Crash Victim was not Wearing Helmet
Officers closed down Peach Avenue from Atlantic Street to Pacific Street for about an hour after the crash. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident. However, they say neither of the boys were wearing a helmet.
“Parents, if you allow your teenagers to ride these vehicles, please make sure they always wear the appropriate safety gear. It could save their lives in a situation like this,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
