Truck Driver Hospitalized, Traffic Backed Up After I-10 Big Rig Crash

A truck driver was injured after a big rig crash on I-10 just west of Cactus City early Thursday morning. The crash happened in the eastbound lanes at 3:25 a.m. The trailer overturned and debris was strewn across the road.

Firefighters freed the driver from the big rig and he was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center for his injuries. The right lane was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared.

Another big rig crash occurred on I-10 less than an hour later near Cottonwood Springs Road. No one was reportedly injured in that crash.

Big rig crashes are dangerous for everyone on the road, including the truck drivers themselves. In 2012, about 700 big rig drivers or their passengers were killed and 26,000 were injured in crashes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 3 truck drivers killed in crashes were not wearing seat belts.

“We are wishing the injured truck driver a quick recovery. Thankfully no one else was hurt in the two crashes,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
