Through the end of December, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) closed all lanes but one on a 30-mile stretch of eastbound I-10 as it continues its expansive I-10 rehabilitation project. The closures occur between the Cactus City Rest Area and Highway 177 from the hours of 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Caltrans halted lane closures during Thanksgiving for the sake of all who traveled during the holidays.
Those who travel toward Phoenix during the night are likely to experience delays, considering they will need to share the one open lane with everyone on the road—including big rigs.
The $96 million rehabilitation project began in May and is projected to last two years. The project will improve the 124 miles from Cactus City to Highway 177.
“Having only one lane for travel is going to be frustrating for some motorists. We encourage all drivers to continue to drive safely, even if that means slowing down. Don’t illegally pass other vehicles in the work zone, especially big rigs,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
