A woman was found dead near a hiking trail in Mountain Center Sunday morning. The woman’s body was discovered around 8:40 a.m. on a trail near Ribbonwood Drive. Because of the rough terrain, investigators were lowered to the scene via the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department aviation unit.
Foul play has not been ruled out as a potential cause of death, but the incident remains under investigation.
Hiking in the desert is a popular activity, but it needs to be approached with extreme caution—especially when temperatures are at sweltering levels. Hikers should never go out on the trails alone and they should always be well prepared, even if they only plan to go for a short hike. Check out our 8 rules for safe hiking before you hit the trails.
“We’re sorry to hear about this latest hiking-related tragedy. Please be cautious if you decide to take to the trails in hot weather,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
