2 Occupants Escape After Driving Onto Railroad Track

A driver and his passenger escaped injury in an early morning crash in December after they drove onto a railroad track in Hesperia. According to the Hesperia Sheriff’s station, the driver of a 1993 Toyota Camry failed to stop at a stop sign and ended up on the railroad tracks along Santa Fe Avenue and Lime Street.

The driver and his passenger escaped the vehicle before it was struck by an oncoming 8,000-foot BNSF train. The train dragged the Camry a quarter mile before it came to a stop. The train remained stopped until authorities were able to remove the vehicle. It is not clear whether the driver faces any charges for the crash.

Drive Carefully to Avoid a Railroad Track Collision

Last year, there were more than 2,000 train collisions in the U.S., resulting in 244 deaths. Motorists need to pay close attention any time they are driving near a railroad track, as trains usually travel at very high speeds and can take a mile or more to come to a complete stop.

“There’s no contest between a two-ton vehicle and an 80-ton train barreling down a track. Drivers should never make light of driving near a railroad track,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
