Engaged Couple Killed in Big Rig Crash

An engaged couple from Bakersfield died Friday afternoon after their vehicle was struck by a big rig near Kramer Junction. Matthew Woodall, 33, and Nicolett Elaine Conley, 31, were on the way to Las Vegas for a bachelor party when their vehicle was rear-ended by a big rig. The two were riding in the back seat of a Toyota Camry on State Route 58 just west of Kramer Junction. The big rig struck the rear of the Toyota, causing it to crash into a pickup truck.

Authorities pronounced the engaged couple dead at the scene. The driver and front seat passenger of the Toyota suffered injuries and were transported to area hospitals. The big rig driver and pickup truck occupants did not report injuries.

Engaged Couple’s Wedding was Weeks Away

According to family, Woodall and Conley’s wedding was set for July 27, just a few weeks away. Additionally, Woodall leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter.

The Barstow California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the deadly big rig crash. So far, police say the big rig failed to brake quickly enough to slow down with traffic.

“Our thoughts are with this couple’s loved ones during this difficult time,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
