Driver Seriously Injured in Palm Springs Crash

A driver was seriously injured Wednesday when he collided with an oncoming gardening truck in Palm Springs. The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at Gene Autry Trail and 7 Lakes Drive. Police say the driver of a black Mazda was headed east on 7 Lakes Drive when he entered the right lane on southbound Gene Autry. An oncoming gardening truck crashed into the car, pushing it several yards until it came to a stop on the sidewalk.

Driver Seriously Injured but Expected to Make It

The seriously injured driver was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center. Fortunately, he is expected to survive. The truck driver was not at fault in the accident and is cooperating with the investigation.

The crash shut down Gene Autry Trail and traffic was diverted to Eagle Way. Northbound traffic was significantly backed up during the closure. The scene was cleared around 1 p.m.

Is Sound Wall a Safety Hazard?

Last year, Caltrans said it would be removing the sound wall that separates Gene Autry from Seven Lakes Country Club, as it prevents drivers on 7 Lakes Drive from seeing oncoming traffic. However, residents of the community argued for keeping the wall. Caltrans decided instead to downsize the wall, but the work has not yet happened.
