Driver Charged with Manslaughter After Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash

Police have arrested a Beaumont man who caused a fatal three-vehicle crash on Highway 111 last year. The driver, 25-year-old Joshua William Brown, was charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter and one count of reckless driving. The fatal crash occurred on March 11 last year.

Witnesses say Brown was traveling around 80-85 mph on Highway 111 when he crossed over into oncoming traffic to get around a Nissan that was in front of him in the northbound lane. He had to swerve back into the northbound lane to avoid hitting a southbound Toyota. That’s when he struck the back of the Nissan, sending it spinning into the southbound lane. The Nissan and Toyota then collided. The Toyota driver suffered serious injuries, and the Nissan driver, 31-year-old Nancy Zaragoza, died at the scene. Zaragoza’s daughter Melanie Perez was rushed to the hospital for severe injuries. She died from her injuries on April 3.

Driver Had History of Reckless Driving

In the months leading up to the fatal three-vehicle crash, police pulled Brown over three times for speeding. Additionally, he has been stopped for various traffic violations in Riverside County dating back to 2011. The violations include speeding, driving on a suspended license and running a red light.

“This driver’s decision to drive so carelessly took the lives of two innocent people. Our hearts go out to their loved ones,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
