Brothers Win $53.7 Million Lawsuit

A Los Angeles jury awarded two brothers $53.7 million for severe injuries they suffered in a head-on crash with a big rig. The crash occurred on northbound State Route 14 in July 2014 near Mojave in Kern County. The brothers, Matthew and Michael Lennig, were approaching a construction zone when a big rig crossed over the yellow line and struck their vehicle head-on.

Both the Lennigs suffered traumatic brain injuries, along with serious back and arm injuries. The driver of the big rig, Hector Contreras, admitted responsibility for the crash. Contreras’ employer, trucking company CRST Inc., was found liable for the damages.

The brothers’ attorneys argued that CRST was negligent in its employment practices. At the close of the 16-day trial, the jury agreed with the plaintiffs and awarded them $53.7 million in damages.

“We are glad to hear the jury came to this decision, as it will allow the victims to get the medical treatment they need following this life-altering big rig accident,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
