8 High Risk DUI Offenders Arrested in Palm Desert

Eight high risk DUI offenders were arrested Saturday during a sweep by Palm Desert police. The officers went into several neighborhoods searching for people who failed to appear in court for DUI offenses or violated their probation.

A grant by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) funded the sweep. This program, along with high visibility DUI enforcement, is intended to deter drivers from choosing to drive under the influence. These high risk DUI offenders face more than the normal penalties for their crime. They also face public humiliation by being arrested at their homes or places of business.

Police Department Prioritizes High Risk DUI Offenders

Drivers who fail to appear in court for their DUI offenses often face harsher penalties than those who comply. The Palm Desert Police Department sees the reduction of drunk driving as a high priority. Thus, the city can expect sweeps like this to become a normal part of DUI enforcement.

“A DUI is a serious offense, and those who commit these crimes need to realize they cannot run away from the consequences,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
