Since the discovery of the Adidas data breach in July, 2018, a number of additional companies have followed suit in disclosures of similar incidents. In fact, since January of 2019, there have been 19 document cases of data breaches within prominent consumer companies.

Adidas found out about the breach on June 26 and informed customers about it right away. Although the initial security flaw remained a mystery, studies have revealed that a number of these penetrations occur via online or in-store payment system.

The implications of these breaches is quite significant. According to a recent study by KPMG, 19% of customers polled would completely stop shopping with a retailer who experienced a breach.
