Adidas found out about the breach on June 26 and informed customers about it right away. Although the initial security flaw remained a mystery, studies have revealed that a number of these penetrations occur via online or in-store payment system.

The implications of these breaches is quite significant. According to a recent study by KPMG, 19% of customers polled would completely stop shopping with a retailer who experienced a breach.
