A motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon when he was struck by a Jeep in Cajon Pass. The crash occurred on Highway 138 near I-15. Authorities have identified the victim as 52-year-old Jon D. Wike of Palmdale.

Police say the motorcyclist was traveling west on Highway 138, approaching the 76 gas station west of I-15. As the motorcycle approached, a Jeep Cherokee was pulling out of the gas station. The driver, 26-year-old Melissa Donovan, pulled out onto the westbound lane, failing to see the motorcyclist. Wike attempted to brake and get out of the Jeep’s path, but the motorcycle began to overturn and collided with the vehicle.

Bystanders attempted CPR on the motorcyclists as they waited for emergency responders. He was rushed to San Bernardino Community Hospital, where he passed away from his injuries at 6:14 p.m. Police say the crash was captured on surveillance cameras, and that alcohol and drugs were not factors.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s loved ones during this difficult time,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
