A deadly head-on crash in Hesperia Wednesday afternoon took the life of a local woman. Authorities have identified 57-year-old Marylou Hernandez as the victim of the crash. The collision occurred just before 1 p.m. on Highway 395 south of Main Street.
The crash involved a Honda Accord, a Porsche SUV and a Dodge Charger. Officials say Hernandez was traveling in the Honda Accord when it crashed head-on with the Dodge Charger. The driver and sole occupant of the Dodge was ejected from the vehicle and taken to the hospital. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:10 p.m. No other injuries were reported.
Police shut down Highway 395 from Main Street to Poplar Street while police investigated. The Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team is still investigating the deadly head-on crash.
Head-On Collisions are Rare but Deadly
Head-on collisions are some of the most dangerous types of car accidents. This is due to the intense force both drivers sustain, since both vehicles are traveling toward each other, often at high speeds. Although only 2% of crashes are head-on collisions, they account for roughly 10% of traffic fatalities. These types of crashes are also notorious for causing major injuries, such as spinal injuries, traumatic brain injuries and broken bones.
“Our prayers are with the driver recovering from his injuries, as well as the family of the victim who lost her life in this head-on crash,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
