Two people lost their lives and three others were injured in an I-10 rollover crash early Saturday morning. The single-vehicle accident occurred in the eastbound lane west of Date Palm Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe made an unsafe turning maneuver, which caused the vehicle to roll over.
3 Occupants Not Wearing Seatbelts Ejected from Vehicle
Three of the vehicle’s six occupants were not wearing their seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle. One of them, a 40-year-old man, died at the scene. A second male passenger died shortly after at Desert Regional Medical Center. The third ejected passenger was taken to the hospital with major injuries.
The driver, 20, was not injured in the crash. Two other male passengers suffered minor injuries, for which they declined treatment.
Police closed down all four lanes of I-10 near the crash site while they cleared the scene. All lanes were reopened just after 5 a.m. The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash, and says that fatigue might have been a factor.
