A 6-year-old child suffered fatal injuries in an I-15 rollover crash Thursday night. The crash, which also injured three others, occurred around 8:30 p.m. on southbound I-15 in Barstow.

According to police, the driver of a 1999 Ford Explorer lost control of the vehicle. The SUV then overturned. It came to a stop along the freeway between Outlet Center Drive and Hodge Road.

Child Ejected from Vehicle

Police say the 6-year-old child, identified as Makayla Ramirez, was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but Ramirez was pronounced dead at 9:15 p.m. at Barstow Community Hospital. Two other children, an 11-year-old and a 9-year-old, were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver was then airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for head and neck trauma.

The Barstow CHP is investigating the crash. It is still unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Anyone with information about the accident can contact the Barstow CHP at (760) 255-5900.
