A driver was charged with attempted murder for committing a hit-and-run in Apple Valley early Saturday morning. Police say 21-year-old Shelby Morin of Hesperia was driving his gray Dodge truck outside an AMPM gas station on Bear Valley Road and Kiowa Road when he struck a pedestrian, 30-year-old Eric Miles. Morin then drove away from the scene.
Miles was accompanied by several family members, including his wife. They had apparently come from Gator’s Sports Bar & Grill in Apple Valley and were followed by Morin and his two passengers. Miles’ sister, a witness to the hit-and-run, reported that Morin and the others in the truck were yelling at Miles in the AMPM parking lot. When Miles began walking toward his car, he was hit by the truck.
Miles was initially taken to Desert Valley Hospital but was later airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Witnesses identified Morin to authorities. He was arrested for attempted murder and is being held in lieu of $1M.
“This case demonstrates one of the serious consequences drivers might face if they commit a hit-and-run. We hope the victim makes a speedy recovery,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
