Last night, a tragic vehicle accident resulted in an unexpected fire outbreak on both the east and westbound lanes of I-10 near Jefferson Street in Indio.
According to local authorities, a big rig traveling on the westbound side of I-10 attempted to avoid a mattress in the middle of the road, causing it to overturn and crash into the right shoulder. After the collision, the big rig caught on fire. Almost simultaneously, a series of trees across the road caught fire as well. Interestingly, authorities have not yet definitively stated that the fire in the trees occurred as a result of the big rig accident.
The identity of the driver has not been released.
As can be seen from the photo included here, the big rig was virtually destroyed in the resulting fire.
