Caltrans Downsizes Dangerous Palm Springs Wall

A wall along Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs has been the cause of several accidents and near-accidents. Fortunately, the wall is in the process of being downsized to improve traffic safety in the area.

Driver Seriously Injured Because of Wall

The wall is along Gene Autry Trail at 7 Lakes Drive, and its southern corner prevents drivers on 7 Lakes Drive from seeing oncoming traffic. In November, a driver entered Gene Autry Trail in front of a southbound gardening truck because of the the visual impediment. The truck crashed into the vehicle, seriously injuring the driver.

Caltrans began tearing down the wall Friday. They will be reconstructing it to allow for better visibility for drivers. Construction will last about 30 days, and traffic on Gene Autry Trail will be reduced to one lane during construction hours, which are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Drivers should expect while construction is taking place.

“We’re glad something is finally being done to reduce the risk of accidents at this intersection,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
