Class Action Claims Chevrolet SUVs Burn Oil at Alarming Rate

A class action has been filed by two Chevrolet Equinox owners over engine damage and other problems caused by the rate at which the vehicles burn oil. According to the lawsuit, the engines have a defect, which causes the SUVs to burn excessive amounts of oil. Additionally, the lawsuit alleges that the vehicles also fail to warn drivers of low oil levels, despite having an oil pressure warning system.

The lawsuit claims that the defect can cause engine failure at any time, which increases the risk of a crash. The plaintiffs say the automaker, General Motors, is aware of the defect but has failed to recall the vehicles or inform owners of the issue. Moreover, the plaintiffs say they would not have spent the money they had on their SUVs had they known about the engine defect.

The class action would represent current and former owners or lessees of model year 2010-2017 Chevrolet Equinox SUVs with an EcoTech 2.4-liter engine.
