Drive Safely: I-10 Paving Project to Last into 2019

Last month, Caltrans confirmed that a major traffic delay on I-10 was related to a paving project, which is taking place Monday through Friday from midnight to 2 p.m. The paving is happening along I-10, Highway 11 and the Highway 86 Expressway. Caltrans says the project will continue for several months, into 2019.

Caltrans has stated that improvements to these highways will improve freight movement and efficiency. I-10 is a major trucking corridor, and the other highways connect to it, making them frequently-traveled routes for trucks.

When Can Drivers Expect Delays?

Because of the timing of the work, drivers can expect traffic delays during morning rush hour and lunchtime. Caltrans says it will warn drivers ahead of time of any closures related to the paving project.

“Road work inevitably causes traffic delays, which can lead to risky driver behavior. Prepare ahead of time for any traffic delays along these roads, and remain calm if you do encounter backups due to the road work,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
