Driver Faces Felony Charges

Authorities have filed felony hit-and-run charges against a driver who struck three vehicles in Victorville, critically injuring an 8-year-old boy. On January 23, 21-year-old Adam Mata of Victorville crashed his Mitsubishi Eclipse into three vehicles. The crash happened at the intersection of Palmdale Road and El Evado Road.

According to prosecutors, Mata was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he crashed into the vehicles that were waiting at the light. Several people were injured in the crash, including an 8-year-old boy. The child was barely responsive when first responders arrived. As of Wednesday, the boy was still in a coma. Police say they found alcohol inside the Eclipse at the scene.

Driver Faces Multiple Felony Charges

In addition to felony hit-and-run charges, Mata has also been charged with felony DUI and felony hit-and-run resulting in death or serious injury. Prosecutors have also added sentencing enhancements for causing brain damage or paralysis. Mata has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He will appear in court again on Feb. 21.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his family. Thankfully, prosecutors are taking this case very seriously by charging the drunk driver with felonies and sentencing enhancements,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
