Driving North for Memorial Day? Avoid PCH

If you plan to head north to the Bay Area for Memorial Day, steer clear of the Pacific Coast Highway. This year’s heavy rainfalls destroyed the Pfeiffer Bridge in Big Sur. The new construction has shut down a large portion of PCH. The $24 million bridge should be completed sometime in September.

Until then, drivers traveling north on PCH will not get past Ragged Point, about 50 miles south of Big Sur. Drivers traveling north would probably be better off avoiding the iconic highway and taking alternate freeways.

California Rainstorms Cause Millions in Damage

The Pfeiffer Bridge is just one of many structures damaged or destroyed during California’s rainstorms. In fact, damages from the storms caused more than $600 million of damage across the state—more than double Caltrans’ annual emergency repair budget.

“Wherever your Memorial Day travels take you, please drive carefully during the holiday weekend,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
