Did Drowsy Driving Cause Fatal Box Truck Crash?

A fatal box truck crash occurred in Victorville Sunday morning. The Mother’s Day crash happened on southbound I-15 just north of Nisqualli Road around 8:40 a.m. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the box truck crashed into a guardrail and the La Mesa/Nisqualli exit sign. The driver and passenger were both ejected from the truck.

One of the victims died at the scene. The other victim, a man in his 40s, was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for unknown injuries. However, his current condition is unknown. Police say the box truck belonged to “Moving Stars Inc.,” a Houston-based moving company.

Did Truck Driver Fall Asleep at the Wheel?

According to a GoFundMe page, the deceased victim is Kevin Bussey. The page claims Bussey is believed to have fallen asleep while driving the box truck, causing him to swerve off the roadway into the guardrail.

The fatal box truck crash caused traffic delays on southbound I-15 for several hours. Police also closed down select lanes on Amargosa Road. The accident remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash should contact the CHP at (760) 241-1186.

“Our heart breaks for the victim’s family. This crash appears to be the result of drowsy driving, which studies show is comparable to driving under the influence. Remember that if you are feeling drowsy behind the wheel, your safest move is to stay off the road until you’ve gotten enough sleep to safely drive,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
