Fiat Chrysler Recalls 4.8 Million Vehicles

Fiat Chrysler is recalling roughly 4.8 million vehicles due to a defect that keep cruise control from deactivating. The company says the defect has not resulted in any crashes or injuries. However, the driver of a 2017 Dodge Journey reported an incident in which they were unable to deactivate cruise control while driving.

Fiat Chrysler reports that the problem would only occur under unlikely circumstances. Cruise control systems in the affected vehicles can automatically accelerate to help vehicles maintain the speed selected by the driver. If acceleration happens at the same time as a short-circuit in the electrical network, the driver may be unable to disengage cruise control.

Owners of Affected Vehicles Should Not Use Cruise Control

Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to not use the cruise control function until their vehicles have been repaired. The vehicles being recalled include 2014-2019 model year Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles. Here is the full list of vehicles being recalled. Owners will be alerted of the recall by Fiat Chrysler, and dealers will perform a software upgrade on the vehicles to solve the problem.

“Although it is unlikely that this issue will affect you, the possibility is still there, and there is no reason to take unnecessary risks. Drivers should follow the instructions of the recall and have their vehicles repaired as soon as possible,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
