Ford has announced a recall of 1.38 million vehicles for a steering wheel defect that can cause the wheel to detach. The recall includes 2014 through 2018 model year Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles.
In October, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigated 841,000 Ford Fusion vehicles over complaints about the steering wheels. It appears that in some cases, the steering wheel bolts can become loose and detach, creating a safety hazard for drivers. The defect has been linked to two accidents and one injury.
Ford will notify vehicle owners of the recall. Dealers will replace the steering wheel bolt with a longer one to solve the problem.
“As with any auto recall, it’s important for owners to respond promptly and get the issue resolved as soon as possible,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
