Have a Good Ride Program Raises Awareness for Motorcycle Safety

In response to the rise in motorcycle crash fatalities, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has implemented the Have A Good Ride III (HAGR III) program to increase safety for motorcyclists throughout the state.

The number of motorcycle-involved fatalities within CHP jurisdiction has steadily increased since 2013. In order to combat this issue, the CHP’s HAGR III program will use education and enforcement efforts to raise awareness for motorcycle safety.

The CHP will focus their safety enforcement operations in areas with high rates of motorcycle accidents. The campaigns will be aimed at ensuring both motorists and motorcyclists do their part to keep the roads safe for motorcyclists. Areas of focus for motorcyclists will include wearing proper gear and avoiding dangerous behaviors like speeding, improper turning and riding under the influence. Motorists will be reminded to share the road with motorcyclists. The California Department of Transportation will participate by posting messages like “Share the Road — Look Twice for Motorcyclists” on state highways.

The California Office of Traffic Safety provided the funding for HAGR III. The program will run through September 30, 2017.

“We are excited that the CHP is taking the initiative to promote motorcycle safety throughout the state. Our region experiences far too many motorcycle fatalities each year and we’re ready to see a positive change,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
