Huge Dog Food Recall In Effect

Midwestern Pet Foods has recently issued a recall notice on a diverse collection of their dog and cat food brands due to the risk of salmonella contamination. According to the notice provided by the FDA, the recall is in effect based on the possibility that humans and pets alike could contract a bacterial infection from the pet food.

The reason this particular dog food recall is so important is that it currently affects five parent brands and over 140 individual lots of pet food products. The complete list of products included in the recall can be found here.

The recall notice was first initiated on March 26th following a round of periodic testing at the company’s Monmouth, Illinois plant. Although there have yet to be any reported cases of illness from this particular recall, the FDA and Midwestern Pet Foods alike are strongly urging customers to stop using the products immediately. In fact, the FDA is recommending that individuals who do own the products in question destroy or dispose of them immediately to ensure that the likelihood of further contact is minimal.
