According to recent reports, Hyundai and Kia have announced that they will be recalling well over 600,00 vehicles due to a serious brake fluid risk that could result in extremely dangerous automobile fires.
The recall affects vehicles being sold in both the United States and Canada. Representatives from Hyundai and Kia have explained that there is a risk that brake fluid could leak from the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit, or HECU. As the fluid accumulates, the risk of an electronic short in the engine compartment increases. This, in turn, could create an extremely dangerous fire.
Kia has stated that they will begin notifying customers affected by the recall on October 12th, while Hyundai has listed October 23rd as their notification date. More information about the recall can be found here.
