Motorcycle Crash Often More Fatal Than Car Crash

A Victorville man suffered fatal injuries in a motorcycle crash on Palmdale Road last Thursday. Police say 61-year-old Robert Russell Macfarlane was headed east on Palmdale Road when his motorcycle was struck by a westbound SUV attempting to make a left turn onto Del Gado Road. The victim died at the scene.

Investigators have not revealed whether alcohol, drugs or speed factored into the motorcycle crash. However, one man was taken into custody.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 4,586 people were killed in motorcycle crashes in 2014. Motorcyclists were also 26 times more likely to die in a crash than were passenger car occupants per mile traveled, according to 2013 data. One of the best ways to protect yourself as a motorcyclist is by wearing a helmet. The NHTSA estimates that helmets are 37% more effective in preventing fatal injuries for motorcyclists.

“Motorcycle crashes claim far too many lives in our area. Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Macfarlane during this difficult time,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
