A multiple big rig collision on I-10 in Whitewater caused traffic delays and several consequential crashes early Friday morning. Two big rigs collided on eastbound I-10 at Tipton Road around 5:40 a.m.
The crash sent debris scattering across the eastbound lanes. The lane blockage caused delays for more than two miles, up to the Highway 111 interchange. Authorities say there were several other accidents reporting following the multiple big rig collision. There is no word whether any of the crashes resulted in injuries yet.
Multiple Big Rig Collision Part of Larger Truck Accident Issue
In 2012, nearly 4,000 people died and over 100,000 suffered injuries in big rig crashes. These figures show an 18% increase since 2009. Even with federal regulations restricting the amount of hours truck drivers are allowed to be behind the wheel, the numbers continue to rise.
“This big rig crash has created a serious mess on the interstate. We hope everyone involved in this morning’s accidents walks away without injuries,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
