Murder Charges Filed in Fatal DUI Crash

An Arizona man is facing murder charges for causing a fatal DUI crash on I-10 that killed his mother Friday morning. The driver, 51-year-old Thonglinh Khemphomma, was traveling west on I-10 in a Nissan Sentra when he drifted into the center divider. The vehicle then went over an embankment and overturned. The fatal DUI crash happened around 7:20 a.m. east of Dillon Road.

The driver’s 73-year-old mother died at the scene. Khemphomma was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for moderate injuries. He was then arrested and booked at the Riverside County Jail in Indio.

Police have charged Khemphomma with murder, DUI gross vehicular manslaughter, felony DUI causing injury, and misdemeanor driving without a license.

Driver in 2014 Fatal DUI Crash Gets 25 to Life

Earlier this year, a jury found a drunk driver guilty of murder for causing a crash that took the life of a Desert Hot Springs woman. Last month, a judge sentenced the driver, 37-year-old Monica Benavidez, to 25 years to life in a state prison.

“Driving under the influence has severe consequences. In this case, it cost a man his mother’s life,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
