One-Third of those Arrested for DUI are Repeat Offenders

A Palm Desert woman was arrested for DUI after she crashed into a parked car Saturday evening. Police say 26-year-old Lianne Herold was driving a Toyota SUV in La Quinta when she struck a parked Ford sedan at Highway 111 and Washington Street. The crash occurred around 6:20 p.m., and Herold was initially hospitalized.

Riverside police arrested her for DUI later on Saturday. She has been booked at the Indio Jail.

Driving under the influence is a serious ongoing issue in Palm Desert. In 2013, there were 217 arrests for DUI. That same year, alcohol was involved in crashes that killed or injured 38 people. An unfortunate aspect of this problem is the rate at which the offenses are committed by the same people. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about one-third of drivers who are arrested or convicted of DUI are repeat offenders.

“DUIs are an epidemic in our community. Fortunately no one was seriously hurt in this particular accident, but all too often innocent people are victims of drunk driving,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
