Palm Desert Whole Foods Suffers Security Breach

The Palm Desert Whole Foods is one of more than 50 Whole Foods stores around the country impacted by a security breach. The grocery store announced the breach in late September. However, last week it released the locations in the store where customers’ information could have been exposed.

Who Was Affected by the Security Breach?

An investigation confirmed that the security breach occurred within the stores’ taprooms and full table-service restaurants in some of the stores. According to the company’s statement, the hacking software copied customers’ payment card information. This data could include the card number, expiration date, verification code and the cardholder’s name. The dates of the breach vary, but they are in between March 10 and September 28 of this year. It does not appear that the store’s regular checkout line credit card systems were affected.

What Can You Do if Your Information was Stolen?

If you visited the taproom at Palm Desert Whole Foods within the dates of the security breach, there is a chance your credit card information was compromised. The first thing to do is to check your credit card statements for any unauthorized purchases. If you find any, report those immediately to the credit card company. Next, you should cancel your card and request a new one. Even if you have not found unauthorized purchases on your statement, you might still want to request a new card number to be safe.

“Security breaches are a major concern for consumers, especially in the wake of the Equifax breach. Pay close attention to your account statements for any suspicious activity,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
