Pedestrian Killed by a Vehicle in Apple Valley

A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in Apple Valley Friday night. The pedestrian accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Navajo Road near Highway 18. A witness reported that the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and ran across the street. A Chevrolet pickup truck struck the woman as she crossed.

The pedestrian suffered traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at 6:37 p.m. Navajo Road was shut down from Pine Ridge Avenue to Highway 18 for the investigation. The identity of the 61-year-old victim is being withheld until family is notified.

Fatal pedestrian accidents have been on the rise over the past few years. They now account for 25% of all traffic fatalities. In 2015, 813 pedestrians were struck and killed by vehicles in California. Last month was Pedestrian Safety Month, which was created to raise awareness about the growing problem of pedestrian fatalities.

“These pedestrian accidents happen multiple times a week throughout the desert cities. Far too many people have lost their lives just walking across the street,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
