A pit bull attacked a 2-month-old girl in San Diego last Monday, sending her to the hospital. The dog attack happened around 3 p.m. at a home in the 2200 block of Irving Avenue.
According to a family member, 2-month-old Jemma-Linda Gonzalez suffered injuries to her head including a fractured skull, puncture wounds, eye injuries and a broken nose. The child was napping when the pit bull attacked her.
Police say the attack appears to be an accident and no charges are anticipated. However, the investigation is ongoing. The dog’s owner, a family friend who was visiting, signed paperwork to have the dog put down after the attack.
According to a GoFundMe page set up by Gonzalez’s family, the child may face development issues down the road, and will need a future surgery to fix a displaced jawline.
“It is heartbreaking that this infant had to suffer through such a traumatic attack. Our prayers are with her and her family as she recovers,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
